TODO: Image-Metadata BOT[edit]
The principle of this wiki is that all hundreds of thousands of tables on this wiki are created by database queries and are not
updated manually. That's the only way how a single person can maintain such masses of info in daily updated form.
However, the Media section and image metadata storage is the oldest corner of this Wiki which is highly unfinished.
Unlike all other sections it was not developed from scratch but extended from content of the wehavemorefun Wiki.
The methods to gather statistics about the metadata of each image is highly outdated and not precise.
It is based on "expensive" count images in categories calls which are to be avoided in huge wikis and do not update correctly.
This will change once the complete Media part is redesigned from scratch, using modern CPU friendly database methods
instead of these expensive and unprecise category counting methods. Here the step by step plans:
- Redesign all 13,401 image description pages to create semantic medadata instead of the outdated category sorting
- Fetch all 173 Box-Models and 483 Accessories pages daily to gather which image is used where
- Collect the image short description per article and create a topic mapping database (Product images Casings, PCBs, etc)
- Generate statistics on each of the 332 Image-Contributors pages.
- Collect the global Image-Contributors page from the new data
This is an enormous change which requires coding several cron and edit bots. No human can modify 15.000 articles manually.
Since the advantage is just cosmetic this will remain a low priority TODO. I wish it already was finished, but it is not.
