Named pipes, also called FIFOs (First In First Out) work like anonymous pipes you use in a shell with the | pipe sign, like in dmesg | less. The difference is named pipes are special files in the filesystem, which can have permissions and could be shared with arbitary processes. FIFO are created with the mkfifo command. While FRITZ!OS mainly uses Linux-Sockets for filessystem based inter process communication some few daemons also use named pipes.
