Details
SML (Smart Message Language) is a communication standard for smart electricity meters.
It could be used to read out the metering of your electricity supplier.
SML is developed and used in Germany. Initial development was done by the VDE, a technical-scientific association.
The standard is maintained by the BSI, the german Federal Office for Information Security.
SML can be binary encoded or textual. Modern smart meters use Ethernet or Infrared for communicating it.
To protect privacy the access to the metering data has to be PIN protected by german law.
This PIN could be requested from the respective electricity supplier.
FRITZ!OS
So far only the FRITZ!Smart Gateway is prepared for reading SML data. AVM did not announce this feature yet.
The gateway's USB port can connect a cable to an Infrared transceiver.
