Chip-Details

The following list compares 2 naming conventions, and not who developed the respective SoC:

XR-Naming

Texas Instruments used the XR naming convention for their routing SoCs, appending a number for the SoC generation:

  • AR - ADSL router SoCs - AR7, AR9, AR10
  • VR - VDSL router SoCs - VR9
  • UR - Universal router SoCs - UR8
  • XR - Any router SoC of the respective generation

While the AR7 was the world's first single chip DSL router, integrating the ADSL frontend, this did not work for generation 8.
That's why there is no AR8 or VR8 but an UR8, with an external VDSL frontend. This frontend did not cover all VDSL profiles,
that's why all UR8 models were sold as ADSL routers.
The AR9 integrated the ADSL frontend again, while the VR9 required an external VDSL frontend. It should have been the UR9.
The AR10 *may have* integrated the ADSL frontend again, this has to be researched still.
The VR10 and VR11 are plain VDSL frontends, intended to be used with the Seale, which would have been the UR10 / UR11.

XRX-Naming

Lantiq introduced the XRX naming convention for their routing SoCs, while still using the XR naming for a while:

The generation is appended as a 3-digit number:

  • ARX100 - AR9
  • VRX200 - VR9 - [would be GRX200 / UR9]
  • ARX300 - AR10
  • VRX300 - VR10 - frontend only
  • GRX300 - Seale - [would be UR10]
  • PRX300 - Falcon - [would be PR10]
  • VRX500 - VR11 - frontend only
  • GRX500 - Seale - [would be UR11]
  • WRX600 - WAV600 - Intel WLAN SoCs
