IP is the base protocol for addressing machines in the Internet.
There are 2 major versions of this protocol, IPv4 and IPv6, which have own articles.
Before the development of IPv6 the IPv4 protocol was just called IP. Today the term IP covers both protocols.
Both protocols are members of the Internet layer of the TCP/IP model and the Data link layer of the OSI model.
FRITZ!OS
All Box-Models and FRITZ!OS versions support IPv4.
IPv6 support was added with generation x2xx - ie: 7270.
None of the Telekom-Derivatives ever supported IPv6.
