Details

M3U (MP3 URL) is a playlist format for media files and streams, initially developed for MP3 and Windows players.

Basic M3U is a plain text file containing one media ressource per line, which can be a relative or absolute filename or an URL.
It may contain commenting lines, which must start with a #. Some older players expect each line to be terminated by a CRLF.

Extended M3U files add a syntax for special commenting lines, to store Metadata like artist and title for each media ressource.

M3U playlist use the filename extensions .m3u for non-utf Charsets and .m3u8 for UTF-8 Charset encoding.

cableinfo creates M3U playlists for DVB-C streaming.

playerd supports playing online streams from M3U playlists.

All presets in the Webinterface for Webradio and Podcast streams are links to M3U playlists.
They are hardcoded in ir_pc_rss_data.lua, mediaserver-library.config.js and dectmediadefault.xml.

mediasrv and upnpbrd support M3U playlists through libmediautils.so.

fritznasdb supports scanning M3U playlists through libmediautils.so and libstationurl.so.
