Details
PNG is a lossless bitmap compression format. Typical filename extension is .png.
It is the patent free replacement of the GIF format, which had patent issues for long time.
The offiicial MIME type for PNG images is image/png.
There are 3 extensions to the PNG format:
- APNG - Animated Portable Network Graphics
- JNG - JPEG Network Graphics (lossy)
- MNG - Multiple-image Network Graphics
Although an animation capable derivative of PNG exists it never replaced the GIF format for animations in the Internet.
FRITZ!OS
FRITZ!OS uses PNG as one of the Graphics formats for the Webinterface, see the PNG-Files section.
To access PNG files AVM uses the libpng reference library versions libpng.so, libpng14.so, libpng15.so, libpng16.so.
libpng is used by:
- libwylg.so - for srgp and libmailbuilder.so
- pngtopam - for captive_portal_upload_image, picconv.sh, dect_doorline_image_conversion.sh, dect_bg_image_conversion.sh
- libmediasrv.so for upnpd
- mediasrv
