Details
POP3 is a protocol for retrieving Email. It is used by an Email client to communicate with an SMTP server at Port-110-tcp.
Early POP3 only supported clear text communication to the server. This changed when POP3S was introduced.
POP3 is still in use but it has been widely replaced with the IMAP protocol.
FRITZ!OS
In FRITZ!OS POP3 and POP3S are performed by libpop3lib.so for maild.
Before fw 5.x this lib was also used by dect_manager, email.plugin and minid.
