Overview

This is a template to collect information about a future sensor. Little to nothing is known about it yet. It may even never get real.

The FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 (would have been FRITZ!DECT 250) is a new sensor to capture the data of the official smart electricity meter of your flat or house. Modern smart electricity meters provide an infrared interface with a metallic ring around it, to attach a magnetic transceiver like the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250. Often the metering results are disabled by default for privacy reasons (by law in some countries), and require a PIN which you could obtain from your electricity or metering provider to enable them. In Germany the SML standard is used for communicating electricity metering results.

FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 could be powered by battery or by an USB cable and submits the captured metering results each 2 minutes via DECT to a FRITZ!Box running FRITZ!OS 8+. These results are treated like the metering results of the switchable DECT sockets 200 and 210. Alternatively AVM offers a new cloud service with an extra landing page on myritz.net with advanced monitoring and statistics features and a resolution of one sample per 10 seconds. In the video cited below AVM stated that only metering of energy consumption is covered so far. But since this product is still under development (release planned for 2025-Q1) it's likely that metering of energy production will also be supported later. So far there's also no support for metering of multiple tariffs. Currently the USB connector is only used for powering the Energy 250, but AVM plans to also use it for transfering the metering results, alternatively to DECT. This is likely what the USB port of the FRITZ!Smart Gateway is prepared for, see the libserial.so article, a feature which can be implemented in any box later. The screenshots above come from the (german) FRITZ! Talk Live video about the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250, which AVM released during the IFA 2024.

On 2024-09-03 AVM renamed the FRITZ!DECT series (except the repeater) to FRITZ!Smart, grouping them into the categories FRITZ!Smart Energy, FRITZ!Smart Thermo, FRITZ!Smart Control and FRITZ!Smart Light, plus the FRITZ!Smart Gateway.
