Description: | 24-bit half of a MAC address which identifies the registering Company |
Goto: FRITZ!OS - SMW-Browser
Details
A OUI (Organizationally Inique Identifier
) is the 24-bit left half of a MAC address which identifies the Company
which registered the respective MAC address block.
Unlike a MAC address it typically does not use a colon but a hyphen to separate its 3 Octets:
00-04-0E AVM GmbH
Each block consists of the right 3 Octets which sum up to 2 ^ 24 = 16,777,216
addresses.
OUI can be purchased from the IEEE MAC Address Block Large (MA-L) registry.
FRITZ!OS
So far (2022-09) AVM registered 34 MA-L OUI blocks:
$ wget https://standards-oui.ieee.org/oui/oui.txt $ grep '(hex)' oui.txt | grep 'AVM ' | sort 00-04-0E (hex) AVM GmbH 00-15-0C (hex) AVM GmbH 00-1A-4F (hex) AVM GmbH 00-1C-4A (hex) AVM GmbH 00-1F-3F (hex) AVM GmbH 00-24-FE (hex) AVM GmbH 08-96-D7 (hex) AVM GmbH 1C-ED-6F (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 24-65-11 (hex) AVM GmbH 2C-3A-FD (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 2C-91-AB (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 34-31-C4 (hex) AVM GmbH 34-81-C4 (hex) AVM GmbH 38-10-D5 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 3C-37-12 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 3C-A6-2F (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 44-4E-6D (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 50-E6-36 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 5C-49-79 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 74-42-7F (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 7C-FF-4D (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 98-9B-CB (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH 9C-C7-A6 (hex) AVM GmbH B0-F2-08 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH BC-05-43 (hex) AVM GmbH C0-25-06 (hex) AVM GmbH C8-0E-14 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH CC-CE-1E (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH D0-12-CB (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH DC-15-C8 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH DC-39-6F (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH E0-28-6D (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH E8-DF-70 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH F0-B0-14 (hex) AVM Audiovisuelles Marketing und Computersysteme GmbH
This sums ip to 2 ^ 24 x 34 = 570,425,344
addresses.
Since the IEEE only sells a new block if all prior allocations are used to 95% this is at least 542 million used addresses.
Calculating an average box to get 7 MAC addresses this would be 77 millions of Box-Models.
See the MAC article where they are used.
