Description: | Extension to the classic DNS message format |
Goto: FRITZ!OS - SMW-Browser
Details
EDNS0 (Extension Mechanisms for DNS Version 0
) extends the classic DNS packet format.
The classic DNS message format as defined in RFC-1035 was developed in 1983-1987.
It had quite some limits like the 512-bytes UDP packet size limit, and its header structure was not extensible further.
That's why EDNS0 was developed in 1999 (RFC-2671) with an update in 2013 (RFC-6891).
EDNS0 permits for arbitary packet and payload size and is highly extensible.
For details see the Weblinks above.
FRITZ!OS
FRITZ!OS uses EDNS0 for upstream DNS requests if the ECID option is enabled.
