|Description:||Lookup the IP address(es) of a host name|
All services which access a remote machine by hostname rely on DNS (introduced 1983, extended 1987).
This renders DNS to one of the biggest security risks in internet usage, that's why the security extensions
TSIG, DNSSEC, DoT, DoH and DoQ were added later.
In FRITZ!OS DNS is served to the LAN by multid (routers) or rextd (repeaters) which act as a DNS proxy, adding local
hostnames like fritz.box and the hostname in CONFIG_HOSTNAME plus all hosts in the LAN as subdomains of these.
Since VoIP can have a separate PVC or VLAN with own DNS servers voipd additionally serves Port-7077-udp to the LAN.
This is used by IP-Clients and Mesh-Repeaters in the LAN to reach the VoIP DNS servers.
