An ID3 tag is a Metadata section added to an audio stream, typically used with the MP3 format.
It contains information like Artist, Album, Year, Song-Title, Track-Number, Genre, etc, to be displayed in a player or to be
stored in a media library or database.

ID3 had quite some evolution, see the Weblinks above for details.

FRITZ!OS had 4 different ID3 libraries:

The first usage of MP3 and ID3 in FRITZ!OS was streaming Podcasts and Radio streams for the FRITZ! Mini.
This was implemented in the streamer.plugin of minid which used the libid3tag.so library of the MAD project.

libid3tag.so was mainly used for x1xx models (ie. 7170), for x2xx models (ie. 7270) AVM used libavmid3.so instead.
Since FRITZ!OS 5.0, when AVM removed the FRITZ! Mini support both libid3tag.so and libavmid3.so disappeared.

For mediasrv the new libavmid3tag.so was added, initially with libavmid3parser.so as the parser for ID3v2.

Since FRITZ!OS 5.0 AVM merged both libraries so libavmid3tag.so now serves all Multimedia services which require ID3 info:
