Details
Code Page 437, also called DOS-Latin-US is an 8-bit single Byte encoded Charset of MS-DOS for USA.
Besides the printable part of ASCII it covers graphical symbols and special Characters of some Western European languages.
Alternatives which replace the graphical symbols with more special Characters are CP-850 and CP-852.

Linux filesystem NLS support for CP-437 was added together with FTP support in fw 3.63 - see nls_cp437.ko.
The Kernel-Config variable enabling it is CONFIG_NLS_CODEPAGE_437. More details in the NLS aticle.
