Description: | Dynamically updated DNS entries for non-static IPs. |
Goto: FRITZ!OS - SMW-Browser
Details
Dynamic DNS aka DynDNS
aka DDNS
provides a method to use the DNS system with
non-static IPs.
It is a client / server solution which consists of:
- A server software running on the DNS server, which updates the IP a respective Domain or Subdomain points to
- A client software running on the router, which informs the server software about changes of its public IPs
Most DynDNS providers use update URLs like:
https://dyndns.example.com/update?user=<username>&password=<password>&domain=<domain>&ip=<ipaddr>
MyFRITZ! uses a proprietary protocol. The DynDNS protocol linked in the RFCs above is rarely used.
FRITZ!OS
In FRITZ!Box context Dynamic DNS is required for:
- Remote HTTPS access to the Webinterface
- Remote FTP / FTPS access
- VPN access
- Remote MyFRITZ!App / MyFRITZ!App 2 access
- Remote FRITZ!App Smart Home access
- Remote FRITZ!App Fon over VPN
- Remote IP-Phone (not recommended)
- Peer-to-peer VoIP
- User definable services (port-forwarding)
Since fw 5.27 FRITZ!OS uses ddnsd to perform Dynamic DNS updates.
The Webinterface manages Dynamic DNS in the ddns ui-module which is maintained by libcmapi.so.
Configuration is stored in the ddns
section of ar7.cfg which is maintained by libar7cfg.so.
