DHCP is a protocol for automatic configuration of a network interface.

For IPv4 it uses Port-67-udp (server) and Port-68-udp (client).
For IPv6 it uses Port-547-udp (server) and Port-546-udp (client).

DHCP is an extension to the BOOTP protocol and can also be used by BOOTP clients (limited).

It can deliver the following settings to a client:

In FRITZ!OS DHCP is served by multid (routers) or rextd (repeaters).
Both do not support the full features of DHCP listed above.

The respective server listens on these Network-Bridges:

  • lan:
    • Default IP: - configurable
    • Domainname: fritz.box
    • Default leasetime: 864000 sec (10 days)
    • Max leasetime: 1123200 sec (13 days)
    • Default Lease range: - - configurable
  • guest:
    • Fixed IP:
    • Domainname: fritz.box
    • Default leasetime: 21600 sec (6 hrs)
    • Max leasetime  : 21600 sec (6 hrs)
    • Fixed Lease range: -

This was gathered with IPv6 disabled.

To get a full featured solution dnsmasq could be installed using Freetz.

Upstream DHCP is performed by dsld and its helpers.

On cable models there are the DHCP clients ti_udhcpc (IPv4) and ti_dhcp6c (IPv6).
