Description: | Protocol suite to deliver DVB over an IP network |
Goto: FRITZ!OS - SMW-Browser
Details
SAT>IP is a royality free set or protocols to deliver DVB over an IP network.
It was initially designed for DVB-S/S2 but is also used for DVB-T/T2 and DVB-C and other services.
The SAT>IP stack is based on common standards wherever possible and adopts parts of the UPnP protocol.
See chapter 3.1 in the SES SAT>IP specification linked above. Protocol stack top down:
SAT>IP convention:
Adpopted from UPnP:
You see Discovery of a SAT>IP device is performed by UPnP, just streaming and control are specific.
Since the TS contains the unaltered DVB stream SAT>IP also works with crypted TV channels,
if the client device (ie a Smart-TV) provides the decryption.
Besides this all comfort features like EPG, Videotext, Subtitles and multi language audio streams keep working.
FRITZ!OS
Since FRITZ!OS 7.0 SAT>IP is supported by all 6490+ cable models and by the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB-C.
Discovery is provided by the satip
UPnP root device, announced by SSDP, described by satipdesc.xml.
Streaming and control is provided by the cableinfo daemon, which serves Port-554-tcp for RTSP.
Possible clients are a Smart-TV (supports encryption), VLC player or FRITZ!App TV (both only support uncrypted channels).
