Details
In communications a Relay is a forwarder or repeater which transfers a communication from a sender to a receiver.
This is often used for reach extension of wireless systems, but also to bypass other limits of a communication medium.
FRITZ!OS
In FRITZ!OS AVM uses a Relay-Service for communication of the OS with the remote capable part of their Smartphone-Apps.
The Relay is an OAuth protected API service running on AVM servers, contacted by the cloudmsgd daemon.
So far these Apps support the Relay-Service:
If used in remote these Apps also contact the Relay-Service, to initiate a secure tunnel between the box and the App.
cloudmsgd interconnects to local-only communication forms, like to the AVM-Events which use a local Linux-Device, or the
AVMIPC-Datastore which uses local Linux-Sockets.
The Relay-Service also defeats accessibility problems to a box which does not have a public IP due to CGNAT (provider NAT),
where a DynDNS service is of no help.
Research in progress. The relation to MyFRITZ! and VPN still has to be researched.
