SFTP is an alternative to the old FTP protocol using SSH for secure file transfer.
Do not confuse it with FTPS, which does a similar job over SSL / TLS.

Since SFTP uses SSH it does not require an extra port but uses Port-22-tcp like SSH.

While SSH is defined in 3 RFCs SFTP never got an RFC. It is only definied in an IETF draft.

Neither SSH nor SFTP were ever used in FRITZ!OS. AVM prefered to use Telnet since it's implemented in BusyBox.

Both can be installed using Freetz, either adding the OpenSSH package or dropbear using the sftp-server of OpenSSH.
