Description: | Qualcomm coprocessor for network acceleration |
Goto: FRITZ!OS - SMW-Browser
Details
The NPU (Network Processing Unit
) is the Qualcomm coprocessor for network acceleration.
It is based on the Ubicom32
CPU architecture developed by Ubicom, a company Qualcomm acquired in 2012.
After the purchase Qualcomm renamed the platform to Ubi32
for their NPUs.
Modern Qualcomm WiSoCs have one or two NPUs, each of which can be up to 12-threaded:
- Alder - 2x 1700 MHz NPU
- Hawkeye - 2x 1500 MHz NPU
- Oak - 2x 1500 MHz NPU
- Miami - 1x 1000-1500 MHz NPU
- Maple - 1x 1000 MHz NPU
FRITZ!OS
Recent AVM-Tarballs of Qualcomm based models contain an additional ubicom32_gcc
toolchain.
But there's no source for the Ubi32
NPU side.
For the Linux side Qualcomm offers drivers which they call the NSS (Network Support Subsystem
).
They form the hardware accelerator engine for CPU-offload network processing.
For details see the NSS article.
