Details

The NSS (Network SubSystem) is the Qualcomm stack for network acceleration.

It consists of:

  • Linux Kernel drivers for the host CPU
  • NPU (Network Processing Unit) hardware subsystem
  • NPU firmware

FRITZ!OS

For the Linux Kernel Qualcomm offers drivers which they call the NSS.
They form the hardware accelerator engine for CPU-offload network processing.

Most of these drivers are dual licensed BSD / GPL, a few are proprietary.
Drivers built into the Kernel are part of AVM-Tarballs but most external modules are not.

This is due to the BSD option in the license, which does not require to release the source.

Unlike other drivers the NPU firmware is not located externally in Binary-Files, to be
loaded by the respetive Modules. It is embedded in some of the Modules, in crypted form.

See the Firmware section of:

The encryption used is:

mcrypt 2.2 encrypted data, algorithm: blowfish-448, mode: CBC, keymode: 8bit

Modules

This is a subset of the Kernel-Modules section, filtered for '*nss*' in the name.

Daily updated index of all kernel modules found scanning Firmware-Probes . Last update: 2024-05-04 05:07 GMT.
The label (module) in the Module column shows there are other objects in this wiki using this name.
The Mod column shows the amount of models using the respective module. Click the column header to sort by this number.
You can hover or click a possible Link in the Type column to see the target of that link.

Kernel-Config

This is a subset of the Kernel-Config section, filtered for '*NSS*' variables.

Daily updated index of all kernel config variables found scanning Firmware-Probes . Last update: 2024-05-04 04:24 GMT.
The label (kerncfg) in the Variable column shows there are other objects in this wiki using this name.
The Mod column shows the amount of models using the respective variable. Click the column header to sort by this number.
