Details

wdtimer.ko is the AR7 Kernel 2.4 hardware watchdog driver.
It was part of the external closed source ar7wdt.ko module.

In Kernel 2.6 tarballs it was added, and only referred in Makefie.24.
See in avm.ko how watchdogs evolved.

wdtimer.ko derives from the TI bootloader PSP, the successor of ADAM2.
