Overview[edit]

The ISDN-Controller T1 ISA Link is an ISA card to connect the ISDN-Controller T1 or ISDN-Controller T1-B to a PC using a 5/10/20 Mbps RS422 serial link. This card was developed by Hema Electronic GmbH and it's called Hema TA2. The PCB is labeled Hema TA2C from 1994-05-10. An alternative card for the PCI bus is the ISDN-Controller T1 PCI Link.

This card is not intentionally built for the T1 or T1-B but as a universal development card for TMS320C4x DSPs[1] and Inmos Transputers, which both provide easy linkable parallel processing features. The PCB provides 4 TRAM sockets. A TRAM is a Transputer module with RAM. Transputers can easily be clustered by a 2 wire link using the Inmos Link Protocol at typical rates of 5/10/20 Mbps. This card provides a PC interface to 2 of these links. For longer distances up to 20 meters 2 external RS422 interfaces are provided, as used for the T1/T1-B. 2 jumpers can be used to disable the RS422 transceivers and use all 4 onboard TRAM interfaces or the 2 onboard TTL link interfaces instead. Older revisions of the card did not have any jumpers but sockets for the RS422 transceivers so they could be removed. The inner end of the card has a female 64-pin DIN 41612 connector for the Hema proprietary LINK-BUS-I.

The card has 2 serial link interface chips which both support 5/10/20 Mbps. The C012 which is unbuffered is hardwired to the lower TTL and RS422 ports. This is called the standard / slow link or configuration link due to its lack of buffering. The C011 is the fast link with 2x 4KB FIFO buffering for RX and TX each. It can be switched by software to the TRAM, the LINK-BUS or the upper TTL and RS422 ports. The T1 / T1-B needs to be connected to the upper fast RS422 port, see the right image above.
