Details

libfdt.so is the Flat Device Tree (FDT) manipulation library. It is part of the dtc (Device Tree Compiler) project.

A device-tree is a structured tree containing information about all hardware components of a device and their properties.

A Flat Device Tree (FDT) is a binary format storing this device-tree, which is "unpacked" at boot time of a device.

A FDT is created by a Device Tree Compiler (DTC) at build time, from textual .dts (Device Tree Source) files.
These files are modular per model and may include further .dts or .dtsi (Device Tree Source Include) files.
Linux stores them at /arch/<platform>/boot/dts, like ie. the miami-7690-761/linux-5.4.213/arch/arm/boot/dts folder.

A fit-image used to deliver FRITZ!OS for some models uses the FDT format to store all OS components and the device-tree,
prependet by an AVM signature header. See the FIT-Image article.
