Description: | 300MHz MIPS32 xPON SoC + Laser driver frontend |
Chip-Details
RTL96 is the preliminary codename used here for the RTL9601D
/ RTL8290
Fiber chipset, until a better codename is found.
It is called the RTL960x SoC Family. There's no datasheet in the net about this chipset.
The RTL9601D
is a 1P mini xPON SFU ONT / ONU SoC, the RTL8290
is the matching Laser Driver frontend.
xPON means it could be switched to GPON, EPON and Active Fiber mode
AVM uses it in the SFP module of the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro , the only model with CONFIG_RTL9601D = 'y'.
The module comes with a 16 MB SPI FLash - see CONFIG_16M_FLASH.
See both chips in this picture - the smaller one drives the laser - part of this article.
In FRITZ!OS AVM runs a second Linux on RTL96, booted from kernel.image (static) and filesystem.image (static).
Both have an uimage header, so the bootloader may be U-Boot, which downloads the files from send-firmware via TFTP.
There's a RTL960x modding project with some interesting docs.
