Details

libasec.so is the ASEC database client API.

It provides client / server functions to:

CrossRef

A cross reference shows where functions of a library are used in the system, very helpful to find out the purpose of a library.
fw 7.39 function cross reference:

  • only used by libasecutils.so and untrustedd:
    • http digest client / server
    • ntlm server
  • not used elsewhere:
    • get / free lists
    • get info
    • import / export blobs
    • get handle from / to ascii
    • generate / delete secrets
    • rsa crypt / decrypt
    • ll-rsa crypt
    • read pubkey
    • read / store secret

As you can see only the requests API is used by the system (fw 7.39).
NTLM is the NT LAN Manager Challenge-Response authentification.

libasec.so uses libasecutils.so to connect to untrustedd using the untrusted_endpoint function. Unlike most other
socket usage in FRITZ!OS this does not envolve libavmcsock.so but an ipc:///var/run/untrusted.ipc URL.

Although libminneapolis.so is required libasec.so does not use any of the mnpls_* and convert functions at all.

Source

The names of source files compiled into an executable often help to understand function blocks (and show gaps in the docs).
fw 7.39 source files:

$ strings /usr/lib/libasec.so | grep -e '\.c$' -e '\.cpp$'

/GU/ASEC_grx5_build/src/main/api/src/api.c
/GU/ASEC_grx5_build/src/main/api/src/api_requests.c
