Details

maild is a POP3 Email polling daemon.

Since fw 5.29 maild is started and controlled by libmaildparse.so which is only used by dect_manager.
It can handle up to 10 POP3 accounts and provides the ability to read Email on a FRITZ!Fon.

Before fw 5.x maild was also used by email.plugin and minid to provide the same features to the FRITZ! Mini.

fw 7.29 help:

root@fritz2:/var/mod/root# maild -?

usage: maild [options]

options:
  -? - print this help
-s - stop mail daemon. (NOTSET)
-m - enable msg logging. (NOTSET)
  -p INTEGER - poll frequency. (0)
-D STRING - switch debug messages on. (FUNC)

start mail daemon: maild [-m]
 stop mail daemon: maild -s

Source

The names of source files compiled into an executable often help to understand function blocks (and show gaps in the docs).
fw 7.39 source files:

$ strings /sbin/maild | grep -e '\.c$' -e '\.cpp$'

maild.c
maild_clients.c
