Details

dhrystone is a general-purpose integer benchmark to test the CPU, RAM and compiler performance.
It is used since 1984, so there is a lot of comparison material.

AVM also added a checkperformance script which includes a dhrystone test.
Unfortunately both have been removed in Labor 7.39.

See also the Historical Dhrystone Repo and the Wikipedia Article.

This seems to be a 2.x version of Dhrystone, with all tests included but stripped down dialogs.
It just expects one argument, the number of loops to run.

root@fritz1:/var/mod/root# dhrystone

Error, no number of runs given

Download

Since AVM removed dhrystone in fw 7.39 here a bunch of download links for it.
All are HTTP accessible so they work with busybox wget, which does not support HTTPS.

$ cd /var/tmp

$ wget boxmatrix.info/hosted/bin/<platform>/dhrystone
$ chmod +x dhrystone

$ ./dhrystone 10000000

Current platforms are:
ar10, bcm63, dakota, dragonfly, falcon, hawkeye, maple, puma6-arm, puma6-atom, seale, ur8, vr9.

The maple version is from an old 1200ax Inhaus which crashes on some recent fw.
It successfully runs on the fsgw fw 5.57 and shows it's Dhrystone Benchmark, Version 2.1 (Language: C).
Unlike all other binaries it reports Dhrystones per Second which have to be divided by 1757 to get Dhrystone MIPS.
There's no other source for a maple binary yet.

These binaries are all taken from FRITZ!OS, so they are dynamically linked to the Dependencies below.
Please send me your results and don't forget to name model and FRITZ!OS version!
I also created an IPPF-Thread where you may participate.

6490 fw 7.39 ARM side is special. It does not have internet, at least in IP-Client mode. You need to:

  • Set up a tftp server as explained in the Freetz section of the TFTP article.
  • Make sure it contains the ARM dhrystone executable in its root then open a shell to the ATOM:
root@fritz2:/var/mod/root# armconsole

# cd /var/tmp
# tftp -g -r dhrystone 169.254.1.1
# chmod +x dhrystone
# ./dhrystone 10000000

4020 fw 7.01 requires a symlink for libc:

root@fritz:/var/mod/root# ln -s /lib/libuClibc-1.0.14.so libc.so.0
root@fritz:/var/mod/root# LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/var/mod/root ./dhrystone 10000000

Results

The collected results were moved to the Benchmark-Results section.

Note that all tests used Freetz which builds an own libc.so and libm.so.
Only results since fw 5.58 could be compared, prior compilations did not include all tests, see the Symbols.
Also note that Labor and Inhaus firmware may not be optimized for performance yet.

GPL-Browser

Daily updated index of all dhrystone code findings on the GPL-Browser. Last update: 2024-04-19 04:13 GMT.
The Browse column points to the Path containing the respective source code on the gpl.boxmatrix.info service.
The SoC column lists the Chip-Codenames, the Model column lists the nicks of the Box-Models.
The Diff column links the comparison of the AVM Kernel to the pristine original from Kernel.org.
The Download column links the full tarball the respective directory content is extracted from.
The presence of the source does not mean it fits the respective model and architecture. See the Model-Matrix where it's used.

Dependencies

The (main/scrpn/boot/arm/prx/atom) label in the Model column shows which CPU is meant for models with multiple Linux instances.
Note that this list is merged from Firmware-Probes of all known AVM firmware for a model, including Recovery.exe and Labor-Files.
